Electric Vehicle as Home Battery (Next Generation EV)

E3/DC has developed the complete electrics and the driveline of the E3 EV of EWE at Wilhelm Karmann GmbH in Osnabrück to use the car as “mobile battery”. The „mobile battery“ contains a central driveline and power system, saving weight, package and cost and providing the essential power feedback into the house grid.

This mission will take time to become an EV standard on the road, but also windpowersystems, fuel cells and heat pumps needed several years before they had their breakthrough. Grid based electric cars as storage capacity will be a standard technology in the future.

The EV battery has normally three times more energy than needed for the house per day. So households can use the car as battery without serious driving constraints.

In terms of vehicle to grid logic, these cars will build decentral battery networks, reducing the peak power necessary and used from conventional plants. Energy supplies of tomorrow are not central anymore and will become dominantly decentral and much more individual.
