Ford | E3/DC

INNOVATION FOR sustainable mobility

With E3/DC, the all-electric Ford Explorer and all-electric Ford Capri®1 become intelligent power storage units. The “Vehicle-to-Home” (V2H) concept integrates the vehicle battery into the home power supply: solar power is not only used for driving, but can also be fed back from the car into the home grid. This means greater independence from the power grid, lower electricity costs and security of supply even in the event of power cuts. Simple, sustainable, clever.
1Manufacturer of the all-electric Explorer & all-electric Capri® is Ford-Werke GmbH. Further information on these vehicles can be found at Ford.ch.

HOW IT WORKS

Your all-electric Ford Explorer and all-electric Ford Capri® charge solar power and can power the home when PV power or storage capacity is insufficient.
Your all-electric Ford automatically recognizes the settings for bidirectional charging
You decide how much electricity your car can generate for your home
You always retain control of your car's battery capacity and thus ensure sufficient range
BIDI CHARGING @ HOME

DC charging station with new functionality

With EDISON V2H, E3/DC enables bidirectional charging of the all-electric Ford Explorer & the all-electric Ford Capri® via direct current. Solar power is efficiently charged into the vehicle – without conversion, directly from the PV system or from the home power station.
The charging power adapts to the current PV output and grid power can also be used if required. Externally charged electricity can be fed back into the domestic grid to supplement the self-supply, especially in winter. In this way, the all-electric Ford Explorer & the all-electric Ford Capri® become part of a flexible energy concept.

    We have the answers

    The most important questions
    about bidirectional charging

What does the term “bidirectional charging” mean?

Bidirectional charging means that the vehicle’s battery can be both charged and discharged via the charging station, i.e. charging works in two directions. The electricity stored in the all-electric Ford Explorer & all-electric Ford Capri® can be used for domestic consumption via the E3/DC home power station or stored in the batteries of the home power station. No electricity flows into the public grid.

What are the advantages of bidirectional charging?

Bidirectional charging extends the home storage system and provides more of your own energy that can be used in the building: during the day, the photovoltaic system charges your Ford and after sunset, the electricity not required for driving can be used in the house or stored in the S10 home power station.

Which Ford vehicles can be charged bidirectionally?

Currently, the all-electric Ford Explorer & the all-electric Ford Capri® with a battery capacity of >60 kWh can be charged bidirectionally. All other Ford electric vehicles can only be charged with the E3/DC system and do not support bidirectional charging.

What influence does BiDi charging have on the service life of the battery?

The BiDi functionality takes place in a SOC range between 20 % and 80 %. This avoids an additional load on the battery. In relation to the life cycle of the vehicle, the usable discharge capacity is 10,000 kWh or 4,000 BiDi operating hours.

Can I continue to use my flexible electricity tariff from e.g. Tibber in conjunction with the E3/DC system as usual?

Yes, you can continue to use your flexible electricity tariff, but the corresponding settings must be selected in the E3/DC system. For more information, please contact E3/DC directly or your specialist company that carried out the installation.

Where can I find further information on the E3/DC system?

You can find all the information you need about the system on the E3/DC website, where you can also search for a specialist company in your area.

What does the E3/DC complete system cost?

On the E3/DC homepage, you can find a specialist company in your area that will provide you with a customized offer.

Who can install the Bidi charging station?

The charging station is installed by a specialist company certified by E3/DC in accordance with the quality standards and specifications of HagerEnergy GmbH.

Can I have the Bidi charging station installed without a home power station by E3/DC?

No, the BiDi charging station (EDISON) can only be installed and operated in combination with a home power station.

Which E3/DC home power station is suitable for the bidirectional charging station?

In the first software version, only home power stations from the S10 E COMPACT series are compatible. Other home power stations will be enabled later for operation with a bidirectional charging station.

Can I have my wallbox converted to bidirectional charging?

No, it is not possible to convert an existing AC wallbox to bidirectional charging.

Is the setting for bidirectional charging also possible on the S10 home power station or only on the car?

Bidirectional charging must be enabled via the all-electric Ford Explorer & the all-electric Ford Capri®. The discharge functions for the vehicle battery are set in the vehicle itself. Once the vehicle settings have been made, bidirectional charging is controlled automatically via the E3/DC system.

    Is the system weatherproof?

The charging station is protected against splash water and can be mounted on the outside of the house. For reasons of longevity, however, we as the manufacturer recommend a location that provides protection from the weather, such as rain or direct sunlight.

What warranty do I have on the Bidi charging station?

The warranty period for the charging station is 24 months, provided the installation is carried out by an E3/DC-certified specialist partner.
